RUMBLE ON THE ROADS!

Summernats kicks off in again this year with the excitement and spectacle that is the Summernats City Cruise. Hundreds of Australia's toughest street machines take to the streets of Canberra in a must-see rolling showcase of spectacular custom cars.

Leaving Exhibition Park at midday Thursday and heading into the heart of our nation's capital before returning to EPIC for the biggest horsepower party of the year, the City Cruise isn't just reserved for the tamer end of town with the big, bad, blown beasts allowed to join in too thanks to temporary permits that will allow unregistered vehicles to participate.

Cruising the streets of Canberra with thousands of spectators lining the streets is a blast for everyone involved and everyone a taste of the incredible showcase in store at Exhibition Park.

Cars that were once excluded from participating in the official opening of the Summernats for being a little low or a little loud can now join in the fun. Only 80mm off the deck? Not a problem! Pipes too loud? 100dB or less and you're all good! Engine sticking way up through the bonnet? Take a passenger to keep a lookout for you and we'll see you on the street!

BURNOUT COMPETITIONS

THE BURNOUTS

The most outrageous and exciting part of the Summernats are the burnouts, and there'll be tyre shredding action a plenty at the smoke storm at the Summernats burnout track.

There's not one, not two, but three burnout competitions at the Summernats ...

LAST CHANCE WILDCARD BURNOUTS

The Summernats Last Chance Shootout is the wildest of wild card burnout competitions, where some of the best burnout cars in the country can grab the LAST THREE PLACES in the Summernats Burnout Masters.

THE SUMMERNATS BURNOUT CHAMPIONSHIP

The Summernats Burnout Championship starts on Friday afternoon as we select the finalists for Sunday.

The Top 50 will be invited back for Sunday's final.

THE NATIONAL BURNOUT MASTERS

The Burnout Masters started at the Nats many years ago, and Chic Henry's burnout pad is still the coliseum where Australia's Burnout Masters come to battle ... to the death (engine-wise).

Saturday afternoon sees Australia's top burnout warriors fight for the right to compete for the title of Burnout Master.

The drivers come from all over Australia, and the National Burnout Masters is without a doubt the world's biggest and best burnout competition.

Sunday is a bloodbath of rubber and smoke as both the national Burnout Masters and the Summernats Burnout Championships come to a conclusion.

NOTE:Competitors must be a Summernats Entrant to participate.

In the interests of continuing to improve the safety for all Summernats participants, commencing from Summernats 31 all burnout competitors and their passengers are required to wear a fire suit.

JUDGING

Burnouts are scored in two categories - Smoke and Driver Skill. Each category comprises half of the total score with the scoresheet breaking down these categories into specific elements of the burnout. The judging sheet (below) also includes points deductions that may be incurred by a driver during the course of their burnout.

NOTE: Burnout Masters and Wildcard Shootout Time Penalties

Competitors will be judged on the basis of a minimum burnout period of 1 minute (60 seconds). An overall deduction of 10 points for each 5 second interval less than 1 minute will apply until a 40 second threshold is reached (maximum 40 point deduction). Any burnout less than 40 seconds will receive a Did Not Finish classification (DNF).

HORSEPOWER HEROES

Horsepower Heroes and the Dyno Clinic return to Summernats 30 and is sure to impress.

Horsepower Heroes is simply the Entrant whose car pushes the most horsepower at the wheels. This competition has two classes: Forced Induction & Naturally Aspirated, with no separation for cylinder numbers or types.

Dyno Clinic, while not a competition, the Dyno Clinic gives Entrants an opportunity to find out exactly how much power their car delivers at the back wheels. Cars entering the Dyno Clinic test are eligible for Horsepower Heroes.

Spectator seats are limited so make sure you get in early to grab yourself a good seat to see all the action on the rollers.

ENTRY

To enter, make your way to the Dyno Cell from Thursday afternoon and secure a time slot with Summernats Staff.

DRIVING EVENTS

The Driving Events are part of the unique character of the Summernats and an important aspect of 'fun with your car at Summernats'. Therefore, we are looking for cars with proof of performance and great entertainment value.

Check the daily program for times for all the driving event action on the main arena both Friday night and all day Saturday.

Entrants may enter all, or none of the driving events. Those entrants hoping to win Grand Champion, the Drivers' Championship or Best Summernats Streeter must enter all three Driving Skills Events and the Heads Up Go-Whoa event.

DRIVING SKILL EVENTS

There are three Driving Skill Events; Motorkhana, Circle Work, and Grab a Flag.

MOTORKHANA

Drivers (with passenger) on the grass of the Main Arena test their skills by driving around a series of markers and returning to the start bay as quickly as possible. You may incur a penalty if you hit the markers.

CIRCLE WORK

Driving in a continuous drift around the cones. From a standing start to a standing finish in a clover leaf pattern turning left to the start/finish line.

GRAB A FLAG

A timed two-person event requires the passenger to collect a flag from each of the six parking bays as quick as possible. Drivers, alternating in forward and reverse directions, parking as close to the flag collection point as possible, where the passenger remains in the vehicle while retrieving the flag.

HEADS UP GO-WHOA

Two cars at a time in a side by side go-whoa where the object is to accelerate to a standing stop in the finish area wins and progresses through to the next round.

When the light goes green drivers are to accelerate towards the stop area and ensure they cross the finish line but stop before the red line. If they pass the red (second) line, they will be disqualified. If both cars drive over the red line then the fastest time will determine the winner as long as the car stops.

DRIVERS CHAMPIONSHIP

The times from all three Driving Skill Events and the Heads Up Go-Whoa will be added together and the overall fastest time will be the winner of the Driver's Championship Award.

SUMMERNATS BODY ART NATIONALS

The Street Machine Summernats proudly supported by Rare Spares is proud to announce an exciting new addition to the country's biggest modified car festival, the Summernats Body Art Nationals.

The Summernats Body Art Nationals brings together the best tattoo artists in the industry under one roof, with art shows, airbrushing displays, live tattooing and for the most diehard 'Nats fans, official Summernats tattoos are available!

There's also a long list of awards for Summernats attendees who choose to show off their ink.

KIDS CLUB

Check out the Kids Club in Central Park Friday and Saturday 10am - 4pm at The Summernats. There are heaps of fun things to do, with great rides, activities, giveaways and much more!

KIDS AWARDS

Calling ALL kids that have a creative side with a Summernats twist!

Summernats will present four awards for the presentation of a creative portrayal of The Summernats.

Whether it be the clothes they dress up in, a hat which has been made, shoes which have been modelled or their favourite bike, pedal car, trike or billy cart, which is built to represent The Summernats (NO motorised vehicles allowed).

Be creative, be experimental, ask Dad, Mum, Big Brother or Sister to help and head to Kids Club with your item of choice 11am Friday at the Summernats for judging.

CONCERTS

IT'S PARTY TIME!

The Street Machine Summernats has revealed an almighty music lineup with Wolfmother, Thundamentals and 28 Days appearing at the Nats for the first time.

Saturday night sees multi platinum selling rockers, Wolfmother, return to Aussie shores in January to headline the festival. With a massive global following playing to sold out crowds around the world, as well as sharing the stage with rock royalty including Guns N Roses, Aerosmith and AC/DC and many others, Wolfmother have spent most of the last 18 months touring the world promoting their latest album, 'Victorious'. With a Grammy alongside ARIA, APRA and other awards, Wolfmother's dynamite live show will tear up the Summernats main stage.

Coming off a huge national tour to launch their fourth album and #2 ARIA debut, Everyone We Know, Aussie hip-hop giants Thundamentals are headlining Friday night at the Nats. Famously known as one of Australia's most exciting and powerful live acts, the guys can't wait to deliver on main stage. "Thundas are pumped about hitting the Summernats. We hear the Nats gets pretty wild on Friday night, and it's gonna be a heap of fun with the guys from 28 Days there too."

Kicking off Friday night's entertainment is legendary punk/hip-hop act 28 Days. "We're definitely looking forward to a big hit out at Summernats. It's a crazy crowd and that's exactly what we like". The five-piece first introduced their trademark sound to the scene 20 years ago, and are best known for hits including 'Rip it Up', 'What's the Deal?' and 'Sucker'.
